Randy McKinney reflects on familiar Thanksgiving traditions—from favorite foods and the Macy’s Parade to family activities and expressions of gratitude. He then shares one of Trinity’s own Thanksgiving traditions: serving in McCreary County, Kentucky, through Crossroads Community Baptist Church, The Light Community, and The Lord’s Café.A Trinity construction team served in The Light Community November 17–22, reconnecting with the first resident of “The Trinity House,” a tiny home largely built and sponsored by Trinity teams. A ministry team served November 18–23 at the 15th annual Community Thanksgiving meal, where those who came—whether dining in or taking meals out—heard the good news of Jesus Christ and were prayed for.He invites the congregation to read the Kentucky Today article at the link below and consider making mission work in Kentucky part of their own Thanksgiving tradition next year.

Diving into a bountiful spread that includes turkey, dressing, gravy, sweet potato casserole, macaroni and cheese, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, rolls, and pumpkin pie. Viewing the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Reviewing sales papers and making preparations for Black Friday shopping. Running in the local Turkey Trot (5K). Watching the slate of NFL games. Playing board games or cards with family. Expressing gratitude for that which you’re thankful for. What are your Thanksgiving traditions?

For the past several years, one of Trinity’s Thanksgiving traditions has been to be on mission in McCreary County, Kentucky. Crossroads Community Baptist Church in Strunk, Kentucky, serves as the catalyst for two ministries: The Light Community and The Lord’s Cafe.

On November 17-22, Trinity fielded a construction team to serve in The Light Community which is a tiny-home community providing transitional housing and Christ-centered healing. It was exciting to connect with the first resident who happens to be staying in what has been dubbed “The Trinity House” since most of the work was sponsored by Trinity or performed by teams from Trinity.

On November 18-23, Trinity fielded a ministry team to help make preparations for and serve at the 15th annual Community Thanksgiving meal. Those who enjoyed a meal, whether eat-in at the Lord’s Cafe or take-out, heard the good news of Jesus Christ and were prayed for.
