Building Homes, Building Faith: Stories from Our Kentucky Team

by | Sep 2, 2025 | Churchwide, Missions

Our Kentucky Construction Team is hard at work in the Light Community — installing wiring, finishing plumbing, and preparing homes for families. But the real story goes beyond sawdust and blueprints. Along the way, God is building relationships, opening doors for ministry, and reminding us that this mission is about more than houses, it’s about hope.

When our Kentucky Construction Team packed up to serve in the Light Community, we knew there would be plenty of long days with hammers, wires, and pipes. And yes, there has been a lot of that. But the real story unfolding here is not just about houses rising from the ground — it’s about the way God is building relationships and stirring hearts along the way.

More Than Construction

Every day brings chances to grow closer to one another and to those God has placed in our path. We’ve shared meals and worship with Grant and Gina’s family, joined the congregation at Crossroads, and even found ourselves in small-town shops explaining why we’re here — to serve, to encourage, and to share Christ’s love in action.

One of those conversations has been with Justin, a local electrician. At first, our talks were about breaker boxes and permits. But quickly, they turned into moments of encouragement — challenging him to grow in his faith and step deeper into community life.

We ask you to pray for Justin and his family, that they would continue to walk with the Lord, and that he will follow through on the commitments he has made to the Light Community.

A Door Opening

On Friday, a new opportunity may walk right onto the worksite. A young man from the area — not a believer, and from a family who doesn’t yet know Christ — may join us to fulfill community service hours.

Pray with us that he chooses to come, and that when he does, we will be attentive to the Holy Spirit’s nudging. Our prayer is that this isn’t just about service hours, but about an encounter with grace.

The Work of Our Hands

Of course, the physical work continues too, we during our time:

  • Completed the electrical service drop on a second home.

  • Began the electrical service drop on a third home.

  • Replaced the breaker box and all receptacle boxes in that third house (since the earlier ones weren’t installed correctly).

  • Finished plumbing inside the first three homes.

Yet, these homes are not quite ready. They still need water heaters installed and the plumbing tied into the sewage main line. A licensed plumber has been identified and is expected to arrive Thursday. Please pray that he will not only complete the work in a timely way, but also catch a glimpse of what God is doing here.

Waiting on God’s Timing

As we balance blueprints and prayer lists, one thing is clear: this mission is not just about houses, it’s about hope. We long to see families move in and make these places home, but even more, we long to see God’s Kingdom built in this community.

Pray with us for discernment. Pray that we would listen carefully to God’s leading — both in the work of our hands and in the words we share.

We are grateful for this opportunity, for your prayers, and for the reminder that even in the sawdust and wiring, God is writing a story far bigger than we can imagine.
