Finding Joy in Recreation and Ministry

by | Aug 20, 2025 | Churchwide, Recreation

Since stepping into the role of ROC Director in February 2023, life has been full of tournaments, camps, and community events—but more than that, it’s been about ministry. From children’s basketball games to welcoming adults of all ages, every activity at the ROC is an opportunity to build relationships and share the love of Jesus in meaningful ways.

It’s hard to believe, but I’ve been serving as the ROC Director since February of 2023. WOW—what a year and a half it has been! The days have been full, sometimes overflowing, but always rewarding.

Life at the ROC is never quiet. Our calendar is packed with special events that bring people together and keep our team on its toes—like the ROC’N Golf Tournament, Summer Camps (6–7 weeks with about 40 energetic children each week!), the North Hills 5K, Fall Fest, and of course, Upward Basketball & Cheerleading. And that’s just the beginning. On a weekly basis there’s student basketball, pickleball, volunteer coordination for the Welcome Desk, and all the other responsibilities that come with being part of the awesome staff family here at Trinity.

For me, this role has been a natural extension of my background. I’ve always been in recreation—mostly in therapeutic settings—but one constant has remained: the joy of connecting with the community. Recreation has always been about more than just sports or activities; it’s about relationships, growth, and creating space for people to feel seen and valued.

What excites me most about being ROC Director is the way this ministry touches so many different demographics—from young children to active adults of all ages, and even those who simply step through our doors looking for community. Each interaction is an opportunity to share the love of Jesus in unique and meaningful ways. Whether it’s cheering on a child’s first basket, encouraging a runner at the 5K, or offering a warm welcome at the front desk, God is present in these moments.

I am grateful every day for the privilege of serving in this role and walking alongside the people God brings to the ROC. Recreation may look like games, tournaments, and camps on the surface, but beneath it all, it’s really about ministry, discipleship, and fellowship.

I can’t wait to see how God continues to use the ROC in the seasons ahead!
