Preparing Our Hearts for Advent

by | Nov 25, 2025 | Churchwide

Advent at Trinity Baptist Church invites us into a season of hope, reflection and preparation. Through worship, service and fellowship—including the Hanging of the Greens, Live Nativity, Christmas Cantata, and Christmas Eve Candlelight service—we prepare our hearts for the coming of Christ. Join us this Advent as we watch, wait and welcome the Light of the World.

Advent invites us into a sacred season of longing and hope. For Christians around the world, these four weeks before Christmas are a time to slow down, reflect and prepare our hearts for the coming of Christ. At Trinity Baptist Church in Raleigh, Advent is both a spiritual journey and a shared experience of worship, service and community.

What Is Advent?

Advent is a season of watching and waiting. We look toward the coming of Christ, remember God’s promises, and open our hearts to God’s presence in our lives. Even in the quiet or uncertain places, Advent teaches us to trust that God is still at work and still drawing near. It is a time to welcome the Light who enters the world with grace and truth.

Beginning the Journey Together

Our congregation begins this season on the First Sunday of Advent, a day that turns our attention toward hope. We also enter a season of giving through our World Missions Offering, an expression of gratitude and a reminder that the hope we receive in Christ is a hope meant to be shared with others around the world.

Advent Events and Traditions at Trinity

Throughout December, Trinity Baptist Church offers meaningful opportunities to celebrate and prepare for Christmas:

  • Hanging of the Greens – A beautiful service marking the beginning of Advent.

  • Live Nativity – A community favorite that brings the story of Christ’s birth to life.

  • Christmas Cantata – A worship experience led by our choir and orchestra.

  • Church-Wide Christmas Party – A time of fellowship and joy for all ages.

  • Blue Christmas Service – A quiet, gentle gathering for those who find the season difficult.

  • Christmas Eve Candlelight & Communion – A cherished tradition where we lift our candles and welcome the Light of the World.

These moments help us remember that God continues to meet us with hope, peace, joy and love.

A Prayer for the Season

Our prayer is that this Advent season will draw you closer to Christ—renewing your hope, strengthening your faith, and reminding you of God’s deep and abiding love. As we walk this journey together, may we prepare room in our hearts for the One who comes.
