Written by church member John Roberson- Four Trinity members traveled to the Baptist on Mission Rebuild Center in East Flat Rock September 20–25 to help with ongoing recovery efforts following Hurricane Helene. Nearly two years after Helene struck the mountains of North Carolina, families are still working to repair and rebuild their homes.
Mark Munday led the Trinity team, joined by Jen Hall, David Earp, and John Roberson. During the week, the team worked at two homes, spending a little more than three days at Cindy’s home in Brevard before moving to a second home near Hendersonville.
At Cindy’s home, the team removed damaged and wet flooring and prepared the surfaces for new flooring. They installed the new flooring, painted, installed new baseboard and quarter-round, repaired a door that was scraping the floor, and completed the necessary cleanup.
While the work itself was very practical, the team quickly learned that the project meant much more to Cindy than 
simply making repairs. For nearly two years, she had been concerned about moisture and the possibility of mold in her home.
After the Trinity team completed its work, Cindy sent a message expressing her appreciation:
“Thank you Jen (and Mark, David and John), you have no idea how much all of your work and love meant to me. For two years I had worried about it being wet or moldy and there was nothing I could do until the drainage was fixed. They had a hard time figuring that out. So it wasn’t completed until this Spring. I hate to ask for help but I appreciate all of your professionalism, kindness, love, and your beautiful work. May many blessings come back to you all. Love Cindy and Max.”
And, of course, Max—her lovable dog—was an important part of the Trinity team’s welcome at Cindy’s house!
The team then spent a day and a half at Alexis’s home near Hendersonville. There, they helped clean up her previously flooded basement, applied mold remover, removed damaged flooring, painted a room, and installed flooring. Although the team could not complete all the work during its visit, Baptist on Mission will be sending another team soon to finish the project.
The week was a reminder that the effects of Hurricane Helene are still very real for many families in western North Carolina. Nearly two years after the storm, there are homeowners who are still waiting for their homes to be fully restored.
We are grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside Baptist on Mission and to be able to provide practical help and encouragement to families continuing to recover from the storm. Please continue to pray for Cindy, Aliza, and the many other families still rebuilding, as well as for the volunteers who continue to give their time and talents to this important work.
We are thankful that Trinity can be part of that effort—one home, one family, and one project at a time.
