A team of 5 individuals spent the week of 1/11 thru 1/16 doing Hurricane Helene relief working from the Hendersonville, NC rebuild center. The team members were Mark Munday, Jen Hall, Ron
Hollamon, Brenda Nix, and Steve Goodman. We spent the week working in the home of Suzanne George. We were not able to meet Ms. George. We were able to learn that her house was flooded to about 4 or 5 feet in the main area of the house; that meant the creek nearby rose by at about 25 feet above its normal level.
The level of the flooding in the house required the house to be gutted. As the week began, there were only bare walls in the house. We insulted the outside walls and the floor between the basement and the main living area, then installed sheet rock in most of the house (estimate we installed about 70 sheets of sheet rock). We were not able to finish, but all that was left was about half of the living room and the bathroom (we did not have the required sheet rock for the bathroom on site). In addition to the sheet rock work, Jen Hall spent a day helping another team installing siding on the front of the house.
While at the rebuild center, we learned that a couple of the center staff are in need of our prayers. The site coordinator, Cal Petticrew, is undergoing tests for a potentially serious medical issue. One of his staff, David Fuss, is recovering from a knee injury. Currently, neither is able to work. I would ask our church to pray for these two men, as well as all those affected by the storm.
As always, we want to thank our church for their prayers and financial support. That support is vital; without it, the privilege of showing God’s love in this way would not be possible. Your support, along with that of other churches, has allowed NC Baptist on Mission to restore the homes of about 650 families across western NC. Even so, there is still much to be done!
